Fat men has few sperm

Being overweight has been linked to various health problems like diabetes and heartdisease. However, very few people realize that obesity also affects the quality and the production of sperm cells.

In a large-scale study involving 1940 men to the researchers found, as well as womenwhose weight is excessive, men who are overweight also have a smaller chance tobe parents because they are a little amount of sperm.

The researchers collected semen samples of volunteers and then measured the bodymass index (BMI) as an indicator of their obesity. Men who IMT was 18.5 to 25categorized as normal, including the BMI 23 to 24.9 overweight, and above 25considered obese.

The higher the excess weight, the lower the sperm quality, especially in men who fall into the category of obesity.

"Obesity will lead to modifications of sperm characteristics are due to hormonaldisturbances that make the quality, quantity and reduced sperm vitality," said Paul-Cohen Bacrie, scientific director of the network of European laboratories in his presentation at the meeting of the European Fertility Meeting.

Men who are overweight have a sperm count 10 percent lower, while the menclassified as obese in number 20 percent less. Addition of a group of obese menfound the number of men who have sperm levels of zero to four times more than in thegroup of men with normal weight.
